One of our values at StanleySmith Case Management is that we work collaboratively on behalf of the client. This summer, that most definitely has been the case. When having well-deserved breaks, our Case Managers always ensure there is a handover and a ‘covering Case Manager’ during periods of leave. Generally, this will be a mentor, another Case Manager, or a mixture of those and our office-based colleagues.
When one colleague was off on their annual leave this summer, the opportunity came up for their client to have an operation through a private hospital that would greatly enhance their quality of life. Although the private ambulance hospital transfer was in place and ready for the operation, the provider sadly could not honour the booking.
Covering Case Manager, Ali, got the news late on Thursday, before the Sunday transfer was required. As Ali had client meetings already booked in, Business Support Manager, Rebecca, quickly got on the phones to source an alternative provider, using the CQC directory, as recommended by Ali. Once Rebecca sourced quotes and availability, she worked closely with Directory, Heidi, who took the clinical lead, liaising with the rehabilitation facility where the client was residing, the hospital completing the operation, and the ambulance provider to ensure the transfer was safe, the medications required were available, and the staff had adequate training and all risk assessments were in place.
We were delighted that not only were we able to organise the transfer for the client, but their operation was a huge success. The private ambulance provider who stepped in is now a provider StanleySmith would happily use again.
It shows that collaboration is key: using each other’s skills to achieve the best outcomes and working together to ensure the client’s needs are met.
